HELP TREAT SUBSTANCE ABUSE DIGITALLY?! THE reSET APP!

A New App That Helps Treat Substance Abuse

The reSET is an app that is NEWLY approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

     The Purpose of the app is to help treat alcohol,cocaine, marajuana and stimulant medications.  The app is NOT intended for OPIOID dependence.  It is intended to deliver behavioral therapy that will lead a person to abstain from substance abuse and encourage an increase in outpatient therapy. "The Reset device is indicated as a prescription-only adjunct treatment for patients with SUD who are not currently on opioid replacement therapy, who do not abuse alcohol solely, or whose primary substance of abuse is not opioids." (FDA 2017)

     In a 12 week clinical trial including 400 people that used the app, 40.3 abstained from alcohol, cocaine, marajuana or stimulant medications.

In my opinion, I am very optimistic about the reSET app.  Many use digital technology to get motivation. I use the NIKE app  Apps have the ability to reach a great amount of people in a short time.  it is quick access to get help when you are feeling vulnerable.  If you are a loved one are in therapy and can not reach your clinician or just need encouragement, I believe it can be an effective tool.  It is not a substitute for medical help but an adjunct.

Bird Flu found in Tyson Chicken Supplier!

A Tennessee Tyson chicken supplier had to confiscate 73,500 chickens due to Bird Flu according to the associated press.     Bird flu comes from sick birds and can be passed to humans thru airborne droplets such as a cough or sneeze. It does require medical attattent as soon as possible as it could be potentially deadly for humans.  It is treated with antiviral drugs.  Signs and symptoms are similar to having a cold/flu:  Cough, fever and sore throat.  Lab tests are required for diagnosis. What's surprising is there was a recent outbreak in China of the Bird Flu, 460 people have been infected since October according to the CDC(Center for Disease cntrol).         "THE CASE OF THE POOPY RUN"      By now, we've heard of the runner, Mikal Ekvall, that poooped himself to finish his half marathon. He finished 21st Let me say first that I respect him and applaud his finish. Afterall, the slogan is "Finish Strong".
