The New Nursing Student

     Congratulations!  You have made it.  You have graduated high school and have been accepted into nursing school.  What should you expect?   First and foremost, make sure you are in  the right program.  You may not be aware but there is a shift in nursing.  There is a greater demand for nursing for Registered Nurses than Licensed Practical Nurses.  Finding a job as a LPN may prove to be more difficult than those having a RN license.    Many hospitals are no longer hiring LPN's.  there is a notion that RN"s have a better understanding and a better skill set than LPN's thus reducing the chance of medical errors.
     Secondly, nursing is Hard!  Don't choose this major just for the money.  You must have a great deal of patience.  while one can certainly make money in nursing, you will EARN every penny.  I knew at the age of nine that I wanted to help people.  My parents bought me a nursing kit and I promise you, I wore that set out  lol. Some jobs offer eight hour shifts and some offer twelve hour shifts.  Either way, you will be on your feet.  Do you have the endurance?  
     Next,  you have to be mentally ready.  Yes, there is a lot of reading, you may say, "Whatever, that's no problem".  my advice is don't just read the material to pass a test.  make sure you understand the material.  you need to do this for to reasons:    1.  Its builds better rapport with patients after you graduate.  Patients can sense when you know what you are doing.  2. Those nursing exams are a DOOZY, both the school exams and the board exams.  You hear multiple choice questions and think it's going to be easy. NOPE! Those multiple choice questions were the WORSE!  There was more than one answer.  YIKES!!
\    Despite all the hard work that is required for nursing school, enjoy it.  Meet and greet your classmates.  They are your lifelines!  You will feel that you are drowning and they will be there to reel you in.  Study groups were the best!  You will get to see how much you really know and understand.  Who knows?  You may just be a superhero!  Your superpower will be knowledge.

SO, You think you are raising a respectful child?  THINK AGAIN      I recently took a break from nursing and started substitute teaching.  I mean why not, I love children.  Hunty!! Listen, Get yo Chile! Get some tea while you are at it and sit down because we need to chat! I went into a first grade class room feeling like these are the ones I would have a greater impact on.  They are corrigable at this age right? Bird Flu found in Tyson Chicken Supplier!

A Tennessee Tyson chicken supplier had to confiscate 73,500 chickens due to Bird Flu according to the associated press.     Bird flu comes from sick birds and can be passed to humans thru airborne droplets such as a cough or sneeze. It does require medical attattent as soon as possible as it could be potentially deadly for humans.  It is treated with antiviral drugs.  Signs and symptoms are similar to having a cold/flu:  Cough, fever and sore throat.  Lab tests are required for diagnosis. What's surprising is there was a recent outbreak in China of the Bird Flu, 460 people have been infected since October according to the CDC(Center for Disease cntrol). ITS RACE WEEK!!! Dont be the POOPY RUNNER! 👇

        "THE CASE OF THE POOPY RUN"      By now, we've heard of the runner, Mikal Ekvall, that poooped himself to finish his half marathon. He finished 21st Let me say first that I respect him and applaud his finish. Afterall, the slogan is "Finish Strong". No one said you have to finish clean !😂😂😂     To those that don't know of him, you have question.  Why did this happen? and How can I prevent this from happening to me? Well, Holy Crap! I got info for you.       First, if you have any abdominal ailments such as Irritable Bowel Syndrsome or  Chron's Disease, these may be triggers while running. According to, TheMayo Clinic, some other possible cause may include: movement of the organs, decreased blood flow to the intestines, changes in the intestinal hormone secretion and preface anxiety or stress.  As with anything, get a physical beforehand.        After, you have been medically cleared to run, Prep!
